About the Frank Walters Foundation
Why did I start Frank Walters Foundation for Deaf and hard of hearing Kids?
When I was a little boy, I remember very little about my Great Grand Father Frank Walter. I remember him sitting on a bench outside in the back yard and I use to play around him. I didn’t realize until I got older and that my mom told me that he was deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other ear. He worked for the City of Dallas up until he retired. My family never had a lot when I was growing up, but we appreciated the little that we did have. My mom told me that I was born like my Great Grand Father, I too couldn’t hear out of one ear and hardly out of the other one.
When I was growing up, I went to a regular school with regular kids. I had to sit next to the teacher just so I could try to listen to the lesson being taught. I wanted to feel like I heard things like everyone else. I was constantly teased and never understood why until I got a little older and realized, I was not like the other kids that I had known for years. You learn to adopt and accept life that you were given and make the best of it.
After I graduated from High School, I knew I would not attend a college and went into the work force. I had always wondered how people started their own business and one day I wanted to have my own business. I knew going into business that I had a disadvantage because of my hearing, but I was not going to let my hearing hold me back. I kept faith in myself and I was determined to have a successful business.
After 30 years of hard work and even harder hearing, I have come to a point where I could help other kids excel and achieve their dreams . I feel so lucky in life that at least I can hear well enough to get me to where I’m at today. So many kids are much worse off than I, and they should not be left without help just because they can’t hear. This is why I started the Frank Walters Foundation for Deaf and hard of hearing Kids.

My Great Grand Father will never know that something was named after him and he will never know how many children the foundation has helped . I’m honoring his name by helping kids that need a little push to get them over the edge and to let them know that they can be successful and fulfill their dreams.
